MATCHA 101

WHAT IS MATCHA?

Matcha is a super-powered stone-ground green tea from Japan. It’s the answer for hours of calm, focused energy. Contains caffeine, a high concentration of L-theanine and way more antioxidants than regular green tea. In fact, matcha outshines the top antioxidant-rich foods out there.

Matcha has been a staple of Japanese drinking culture for over 1,000 years. We sourced all over Japan in search of the perfect matcha, finally locating the preeminent matcha cultivator in Uji. Stone-ground from the youngest tea leaves, stems and veins removed, our matcha is the real deal. One shot of matcha tea equals 10 cups of regular green tea.

What is good vs bad matcha?

Vibrant green colour? Check. Umami blast with a smooth finish? Check. Fine, smooth and silky texture? Check. Maratcha is hand-picked and harvested only once a year from the top 2-3 leaves of each bud. This kind of quality is extremely limited. Bad matcha will look army green or yellowish and tastes muddy bitter.
