ALL THE ANSWERS

We have the answers to all your burning questions in our matcha FAQ.

What is matcha?

Matcha is a super-powered green tea that delivers clean, efficient energy. Packed with a high concentration of L-theanine — which regulates caffeine uptake — our matcha delivers a smooth buzz that won’t leave you jittery.

How do I drink Maratcha?

In a pretty matcha bowl. Maratcha’s ceremonial can be sipped on its own or try the premium for a latte or cocktail for those who want to shake things up.

Where do you source your matcha from?

From Uji, Japan. The matcha epicenter, with hundreds of years history in growing matcha. Maratcha is organically and sustainably grown on small family farms.

Is your matcha organic?

Maratcha is ecologically and sustainably grown and produced. All the farms we work with practise organic and sustainable growing methods but as we are a start-up, we didn’t want to take the financial burden of obtaining the Dutch organic certification. Because of this, we are not allowed to advertise our products as organic or use the organic logo on our products.

Is matcha vegan?

Yes, all our products are 100% naturally vegan!

What does matcha taste like?

An umami blast with a smooth finish. Low-quality matcha tastes muddy bitter, ew!

What are the differences between the three matcha grades?

The Ceremonial grade matcha is ground from premium 1st harvest leaves in spring. A rich, creamy, high-grade blend that’s sweet and sense-delighting. Energy jolt minus the buzz? Smooth taste? Check. Check. The ceremonial grade is perfect to drink on its own.

The Premium grade matcha is ground from 1st and 2nd harvest high quality leaves in spring and summer. It has a rich sweet-earthy taste and creamy texture. This one is best enjoyed in lattes, smoothies, and lemonades.

The Classic grade matcha is ground from 2nd and 3rd harvest high quality leaves in summer. The strong green tea taste and earthy flavour make it perfect for smoothies, ice-cream and baking.

Do I need a matcha whisk?

Yes, the matcha whisk is the only way to achieve the original, frothy and savoury taste of matcha tea. We definitely recommend using a matcha whisk 🙂

Should I sift matcha powder?

Yes, matcha has the tendency to clump together. Sifting matcha will make the texture finer and the taste smoother.

Best time to drink matcha?

Matcha is the best all day every day 🙂 We take ours in the early morning because the caffeine lasts for several hours. Caffeine before bed is not the greatest idea, but who are we to tell you what to do?

How do I know Maratcha is high-quality matcha?

Vibrant green colour? Check. Umami blast with a smooth finish? Check. Fine, smooth and silky texture? Check. Maratcha is hand-picked and harvested only once a year from the top 2-3 leaves of each bud. This kind of quality is extremely limited. We source ours from the motherland – Uji, Japan – from small organic and sustainable small family farms. The shade-grown leaves are grinded up by stone into super-fine powder. The result? A rich, creamy, high-grade blend that’s sweet and packed with antioxidants.

How to store matcha? How long does it keep once opened?

Ideally within 2 months. It will still be fine after 2 months; but, the quality will decrease. Store Maratcha in a dry and dark place without direct sunlight.

Where did the name Maratcha come from?

Maratcha is a combination of our founder’s middle name Mara and cha meaning tea. It was actually thought of by her brother and reminded us of a tropical Latin dance.

How do you sustainably pack orders?

We’re sending products as “naked” as possible. But, if we have to use packaging they’re made from 100% FSC certified recycled materials and biodegradable vegetable ink. We’ve proudly partnered with on the greenest printing houses in the Netherlands for this.

Plastic is a swear word, so we never use any plastic tape! We also choose our shipping boxes as small as possible not to waste any trees. We’re always listening to your feedback, email at hello@maratcha.com or text us.
